SUMMARY
The Tableau Forensic SATA/IDE Bridge is portable write-blocker identical to the Tableau T35u, except that it is pre-configured for read/write operation.
A second-generation Tableau product, replacing the Tableau T35es-RW
Help of this Product
The Tableau Forensic SATA/IDE Read-Write Bridge (TK35u-RW) is the high-speed laboratory alternative to the standard write blocker. While the standard “black” bridges are locked to read-only mode for evidence collection, the “yellow” TK35u-RW provides full read and write capabilities.
FEATURES
- Suitable for both the field and lab
- Yellow-case distinguishes the device as pre-configured for read/write operation
- USB 3.0 host computer connection
- Seven LEDs provide status on power, IDE media detection, SATA media detection, host connection, write-block status, and activity
- Free Tableau firmware updates
When to use this Read-Write Bridge:
- Connect SATA or IDE drives to perform NIST-compliant wipes before reusing media.
- Use this bridge to write forensic images back to physical “clone” disks for testing or court demonstrations.
- Safely interact with drives in a controlled environment where writing to the disk is necessary for the investigation.
- Easily move files to and from older IDE (PATA) drives with the speed and reliability of a professional Tableau interface.

NOTE: All Tableau Forensic Bridge can switch between a write-blocked or read/write device by adjusting the DIP switch settings. However, once the breakaway plastic has been removed, that device then needs to be validated before each use to ensure the proper configuration of the device was selected. At the request of forensic examiners, Tableau created yellow-cased bridges dedicated to read/write operation as a way ensure read/write operation to help eliminate the potential for misuse during forensic investigations. Often, a full forensics kit will include both write-blocked and read/write forensic bridges, and you will see that many Tableau resellers sell kits configured in just this way.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
What is the difference between the Tableau TK35u and the TK35u-RW?
The standard TK35u (Black) is a Forensic Write Blocker that prevents any data
from being written to the drive. The TK35u-RW (Yellow) is a Read-Write Bridge
that allows the user to both read from and write to the connected SATA or IDE
media.
How can I tell the difference between the Read-Write bridge and a Write Blocker?
Tableau uses a color-coding system for safety. The TK35u-RW features a
bright yellow case, signaling to the investigator that the device is in Read-Write
mode and is not a write blocker.
Can I use the TK35u-RW to image evidence?
While the TK35u-RW can read data, it is not recommended for original
evidence acquisition because it does not protect the drive from accidental writes.
For evidence collection, you should always use the standard Forensic SATA/IDE
Bridge Write Blocker.
Does the TK35u-RW support both 3.5" and 2.5" IDE drives?
Yes. The bridge natively supports 3.5″ IDE and SATA drives. To use it with 2.5″
laptop IDE drives, you simply need a standard Tableau IDE adapter (like the
TDA5-25).
Does this bridge support SSDs?
Yes, it supports SATA-based SSDs. It is an excellent tool for high-speed
sanitization (wiping) of SATA SSDs before they are placed back into a forensic field
kit.
What imaging speeds can I expect with the TK35u-RW?
It utilizes a USB 3.0 host interface, allowing for transfer speeds up to the
maximum physical limit of the connected SATA or IDE drive—often exceeding 200
MB/s on modern SATA media.
